Hi everyone! I would like to write about the results and the feelings that we had in our workshop. Starting from the beginning our market had a lack of activity, but in the presentation of all of the class, all of you gave us a very good feedback and ideas to improve our market.

Well, we created a market in the corridor, I have to say that it was one of the worst place to located a workshop because is the place where all the students pass, and with the children, we were doing activities in the floor of the corridor and the adults had to trough between them and we thought that a good place to located the workshop is in a class, But finally we solved the problems very well.

I think that all my class were very motivated, the dress up were fantastic, there was some of the workshop that create a great performance, and the consequences were that all the children were very happy and when they finished all of them said that they would like to come more days, because they had fun and learnt.

Our workshop was divided in two parts, the first one we tell them about the context of our workshop and give to them some coins to exchange it for food, then with their food selected had to fill a empty pyramid of food with their food that were selected before and order in the correct way, then we showed them a pyramid of food and check how they put their food, almost all the groups had a clear idea of the order of the pyramid of food. The second part of the workshop we had created and activities with the tablets, and they had to create in groups a menu for the sultan. They were very motivated and also they like to much to use tablets, Alejandro us a sultan check their menus and see what they have learnt and gave to them some feedbacks, in order to let them know some mistakes.

To conclude this post, I have to say that we had a great experience with the children, and as a future teachers we should do things like this for our students to challenge them.

Thanks for reading :)

Reading Failure http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/2014/11/23/reading-failure/ http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/2014/11/23/reading-failure/#comments Sun, 23 Nov 2014 19:25:00 +0000 http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/?p=778 Hi everyone!!

I have been thinking few weeks ago about the reason of why the children have problems to read books, I mean, why the children don’t like to read. As future teachers we have to think about this problem because, we should try to motivate all the students, and also how to react when children in the class say “I don’t want to read”.

Reading specialists agree that reading is a habit, a pleasure, hardly acquired in adulthood. The love of reading has great potential to consolidate when awakened in childhood. Sometimes we hear parents complain: “my son does not like reading”. And they say with some fear. Actually, there are many people who do not like reading. It is a matter of interest.

Reading is a contemplative activity that requires concentration, silence, isolation, immobility, exclusivity. But the love of reading also depends on how you acted in a child’s life.

Looking information about how to help the children with the reading, I have found some helps for them, and also for the teachers and parents.

Many times it was felt that a child can read it pronounces a written statement. At six or seven years or so, start using a code, but it will take time to really know use it. Because it is appropriate to read the text: choose reading, read fast, be able to use the text for something, talk about the message, complete and extend it to other readings.

  • The beginning reader needs a text to the extent of its capabilities, adapted to their sensitivity, taking into account its slow progression.
  • You have to let the child choose the readings. If a story does not end, it may not be out of laziness or inconstancy simply has the wrong choice. You will have many opportunities in school and family life to find interesting topics.
  • At the beginning it could be a good idea keep reading the books, because the ability to read is a skill very slow and need time.
  • The reading-pleasure is a magnificent training to understand and appreciate the textbooks. And the textbooks suggest hobbies and other readings.

Also to improve the reading and the pleasure for the lecture as we have done in class is to create at home or in class a library with for them, because they have any opportunity to take one book and read by them.

I hope you like my post.

Thanks J

Poetry day! http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/2014/11/15/poetry-day/ http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/2014/11/15/poetry-day/#comments Sat, 15 Nov 2014 13:58:57 +0000 http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/?p=710 Hi everyone! Now I am going to talk about what we have done during the half group with Raquel.

Well, the day started with a new tool on the tables, a new Samsung Tab, we have never used it before. It was motivating have activities like this. We were divided in five each group more or less.

The topic was the poetry, how can we teach? Can we develop the contents with the poetry? I don’t use to read poetry and I never thought before to use poetry to teach, so I was very expectation to see how develops the class, because when someone say poetry I can imagine some rappers that they do with music, but I didn’t know how to develop in class.

At the beginning we were watching some videos about poetry in class, and then we had to write the main ideas in the sheets that we had (one thing that I missed it was to have a scaffolding to know what we had to write in the sheets, and other thing was to have an assessment to know that the things what we wrote was good or bad). With these videos my mind start to open because, we could see that poetry is a tool that we can use in class, the children can enjoy too much, and also the poetry can give to them the capacity to imagine place or moment to and also to develop their vocabulary.

After this activity Raquel gave us a little sheet with a little poetry that we have learnt, and then we have create choreography like a dance to teach for the students and make easer to them the poetry.

You can see here what we have done in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UIB4egl7Fw

To end the class we have used the Samsung Tab to see different and funny activities to have enjoyed and learn with the poetry. One of the activities that I liked too much was one that you have only to write some verbs that you like, some nouns and pronouns, and the program create for you, your own poem.

I would like to say that I have never thought about poetry in class because my teachers never used with me, but my mind changes and I saw that poetry is a powerful tool to develop in class.  Also we can use music to develop different intelligences and make it more funny.

Aladdin!!!!! :) http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/2014/11/05/aladdin/ http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/2014/11/05/aladdin/#comments Wed, 05 Nov 2014 17:17:31 +0000 http://blogs.cardenalcisneros.es/childrenslit/?p=596 Hi everyone!!

I am very excited with these new challenged, we are going to have the visit of a local school class of 4th of primary, thanks to Raquel to give us this amazing opportunity to put in practice our work :) I am very happy to have this type of works because we can test it or prove it the workshop if it works or not.

The challenge is very motivated, because as a future teachers we should do this things, I mean, for the children are very motivate learn things outside the school, maybe they will not think that they are learning, but the goal is transmit knowledge for them.

I am very enthusiastic with this challenge because, we have done many works in the university, sometimes we enjoyed when we done it, another time not. But now we have to do something very special because we are going to put in a real scenario, with real children, and this is totally different.

Now thinking in the last years, I would like to say that the teachers could give us this opportunity before because it would be easier for the followings year, and also give us a different point of view. Because in some works, I speak about my teamwork and me that we imagine and think about the activity, if the children could enjoy and learnt or not, and we will never know because we have never put in a practical situation. But with the workshop, we will know at the moment if it works or not, and we will see the different reaction of the children, and this is very good.

Aladdin is a fantastic film to learn many things. There are many topics that we could work on. All the children know about Aladdin make for them an easier and funny method to learnt what we are going to teach them.

I think that the class is very motivate and are going to give their best, and I am sure that the children will want to visit us again because they will have fun and also they will learn.
