Thanks for the comment. It is true how the perception of the woman has changed throughout the years with Disney. Mulan is the only case from my childhood that could be considered as an exception but eventhough her parents still restricted her. So the story still has the same undertones.

Thanks again,

Lourdes

In hindsight I should have added some information on some of the original stories.

When I read your post I remembered this video, I hope you enjoy it! =)

I love the idea of talking about the role of women in Disney movies. I think that women have been undervalued during so many centuries and even nowadays things are still changing; and as teachers we should change this “point of view”.
I also wanted to tell you about some other princess: Mulan, it is a Disney movie from 1998 about a Chinese girl who decide to join the army dressed up as a man to go to war. She doesn’t need a man and she does what she thinks is the best for her family against of accepting the destiny.
The other one is Frozen. It is a remake of The Snow Queen film, however, in his movie the topic of “love at first sight” and woman who needs a man” appears at the beginning but the plot changes and with it the thoughts of the princess Anna. It also appears the topic of “the true love kiss to save the princess” but in this case it is a different kind of love.

I like the structure, the content, and the form! I suggest using some of the original versions to check whether the contemporary version contains the same message you’ve spotted. For example, Rapunzel’s original version is quite…surprising! Nothing to do with Disney’s.
